Inflation Adjusted HMRC Regional Trade Statistics for Scotland Q1 2026

In the year ending March 2026 Scotland’s goods exports to the EU decreased by 4% to £9.4 billion since the previous year.
Over this period the greatest decreases were in Fish and shellfish (down 22%), Chemical materials & products (down 27%) and Drink (down 5%). Fish and shellfish accounted for around a third of the total decline in EU exports and was the largest driver of the overall decrease. Most of the decline in exports of Fish and shellfish is due to a fall in exports to France, Scotland’s highest value destination for Fish and Shellfish exports (down £164 million).
The largest positive changes for EU exports were seen in Power generating machinery (up 5%), Telecomms & sound recording (up 12%) and Iron and steel (up 42%).

Over the longer term Scotland’s goods exports to the EU have decreased by 24% since the pre-pandemic period (2019).
The decline for Scotland over this period was driven by Office machinery (down 73%), Chemical materials & products (down 65%) and Apparel & clothing (down 83%).
