Inflation Adjusted HMRC Regional Trade Statistics for Scotland Q1 2026

In the year ending March 2026 compared to the previous year Scotland’s goods imports increased by 17% to a value of £25.7 billion.
The increase was largely driven by imports of Power generating machinery (up 46%), Office machinery (up 32%) and Manufactures of metal (up 78%). Power generating machinery was the largest increase, and accounted for around two fifths of the overall increase.
There were decreases in General industrial machinery (down 25%), Metalworking machinery (down 73%) and Cereals and cereal prep. (down 34%).
EU imports increased by 4% between the year ending March 2026 and the previous year, driven largely by imports of Power generating machinery (up 28%). Imports from non-EU countries increased by 30% over this period, which was driven by imports of Power generating machinery (up 54%).

Over the longer term Scotland’s imports have increased (up 9% in the year ending March 2026 since the corresponding period in 2019). EU imports decreased by 10% over this period, while non-EU imports increased by 27%.
