Independent Review of Adult Disability Payment: final report - easy read
The easy read version of the final report of the Independent Review of Adult Disability Payment, written by Edel Harris OBE.
A Learning System
It is hard to design a system that is personalised without being too complicated.
It should be easier for disabled people to ask for written translations of letters.
The report says that Social Security Scotland staff should get more training and support to understand how some conditions affect a person’s daily life.
For example, there should be more guidance on conditions that can be better or worse on different days.
There should also be a new group of people called Experts by Experience to help with the next stage of Adult Disability Payment. The group will be made up of people who understand the conditions because they have them.
Social Security Scotland should think about updating the guidance that people can use to make sure it is accessible and inclusive.
