Grenfell Tower Inquiry recommendations: progress update - June 2026
The progress update contains information regarding the Grenfell Tower Inquiry recommendations (so far as relevant to Scotland). Information is current up until 1 June 2026.
Theme - Housing
Issue 1 - Housing - Role of the Scottish Housing Regulator
Reserved area – No
Delivery – Guidance
Target date – Complete
Planned activity
As previously reported, the Scottish Housing Regulator (SHR) commissioned report reviewing the UK Social Housing (Regulation) Act 2023 against Scottish legislation found some alignment through the Housing (Scotland) Act 2010 and their existing regulatory framework, which already reflects many Grenfell Inquiry principles.
Given we consider this issue is largely covered by existing approaches we consider it closed for Scottish Government interests. However, the SHR will continue to monitor developments and ensure its regulatory approach remains in line with best practice and evolving legislation.
