Total final energy consumption in Scotland in 2024 was 135.7 TWh - down 0.5% from 136.4 TWh in 2023 and down 20.9% from the baseline figure of 171.6 TWh (the baseline is the average consumption from 2005-2007).

In the first half of 2026, 22.6 TWh of electricity was generated from renewable sources.

In the second quarter of 2026, 9.1 TWh of renewable electricity was generated in Scotland. This is the most renewable electricity generated in the second quarter of any year in Scotland.

Scotland’s capacity for electricity generation from renewable sources has continued to increase and currently stands at 18.4 GW – a 3.3% increase compared to 17.8 GW at the end of the second quarter of 2025.

There was 1,663 MW of operational electricity storage in Scotland as of the end of June 2026.

As of the end of June 2026, there were 1,253 renewable energy projects with an estimated capacity of 99.4 GW in the planning pipeline in Scotland.

In 2024, Scotland generated the equivalent of 32.3% of total final energy consumption from renewable sources. This is a 2.8 percentage point increase compared to 2023.

In 2024, there has been a 16.2% increase in energy productivity from the 2015 baseline.
