Figure 2: Number of Community Groups Owning Assets, 2000 to 2024 Line chart showing the increase in groups from 71 in 2000 to 503 in 2024; labels when community ownership legislation came into force.

Note community groups are excluded where, as of 31 December 2024, they no longer own any assets.

The figure is available in the Figures supporting document.

The number of groups who own assets in 2024 was 503, compared to 71 groups in 2000 or earlier. This trend is similar to that of the number of assets with a steady increase observed from 2000, reflecting that most groups own only one asset.

There are 173 groups which own more than one asset; the most assets owned by a single group is 13.

The local authorities with the most community groups owning assets are Highland (127, 25% of all groups) and Argyll and Bute (63, 13% of all groups).
