Violence Prevention Framework for Scotland: CRWIA screening sheet
This child rights and wellbeing impact assessment (CRWIA) assesses the potential impact of the Violence Prevention Framework on children’s rights under the UNCRC and their wellbeing.
3. What likely impact – direct or indirect – will the policy/measure have on children and young people?
The Framework is targeted at preventing violence, and when it does occur reduce the harm, which has the ability to impact everyone, including children and young people. An example of this would be action 13 of the Framework which specifically addresses repeat violent victimisation which impacts those directly involved in violent lifestyles but also their families and communities.
There are specific actions within the framework that have directly impacted on children and young people in a positive way:
- Action 5 – deliver solutions specifically aimed at targeting weapons carrying among some young people and older people with histories if violence
- Action 6 - Identify opportunities over the next year to develop a collaborative plan with actions for harm reduction and violence prevention specifically targeting the effects of social media on violence.
- Action 8 - Consider the findings from our forthcoming Behaviour in Schools Research, which is due to be published in late 2023, and will work with partners to develop a response to any emerging issues relating to violence.
- Action 11 - Further roll out of the Hospital Youth Navigator pilot, to ensure more young people will be able to access the help they need at an earlier stage in their lives.
- Action 12 - During 2023-2024, Medics Against Violence will lead work, co-ordinating with other partners, to test out delivery of a new model of support for young people based within the community to prevent harm from violence escalating.
- Action 14 - During 2023-2024, the Scottish Violence Reduction Unit will lead work to identify opportunities to intervene earlier to reduce and prevent harm by those that have been, or at risk of being, care experienced.
