Violence Prevention Framework for Scotland: CRWIA screening sheet
This child rights and wellbeing impact assessment (CRWIA) assesses the potential impact of the Violence Prevention Framework on children’s rights under the UNCRC and their wellbeing.
1. Brief Summary
The Violence Prevention Framework for Scotland was a commitment set out in the Year 1 Delivery Plan of the Vision for Justice in Scotland 2022. It supports the National Outcome: We live in communities that are inclusive, empowered, resilient and safe.
The overall vision of the Framework is to prevent violence, and when it does occur, to reduce the harm. The Framework sets out the four aims on which our violence prevention work is based: to address the underlying causes of violence before it occurs, prevent escalation of violence and reduce the harm of violence through care, rehabilitation and safety. Taking a public health approach, action is targeted towards those most affected by violence, through preventative and early intervention.
The Framework recognises work already underway to tackle specific forms of violence, and strengthens the Scottish Government’s overall response to tackling violence. The approach adopted by the Framework and its actions is informed by evidence and research on what we know about violence in Scotland and what works to tackle it.
The Framework and its actions are being kept under review and updated in light of new evidence.
