Healthier fish and shellfish

We are responsible for regulation of aquaculture fish health to reduce the risk of loss because of disease. Our fish health experts are committed to high quality research and development, and sharing disease risk management information.

Surveillance and monitoring helps to make sure emerging fish health issues are detected quickly, and that there is a timely and appropriate response when potential disease risks are found.

Food Standards Scotland  is the Competent Authority which is responsible for undertaking Official Controls to determine the safety of marine waters used for the harvesting of live bivalve molluscs (LBMs) in Scotland. LBMs include shellfish such as mussels and oysters, clams and cockles.
