What we do

We work to deliver the Scottish Government's ambition to internationalise Scotland's economy.

We are responsible for:

Trade and investment

  • accelerating delivery of the Trade and Investment Strategy
  • implementing the international workstream of the Enterprise and Skills Review
  • lead engagement with Scottish Development International (SDI) to ensure investor, trade and business support is alive to constitutional and financial developments, supporting Scotland's interests in an emerging context
  • developing a strategy alongside International Division to ensure Scotland House, London and our other hubs help the directorate achieve its strategic objectives
  • extracting maximum value for Scotland from UK Trade and Investment Networks
  • leading on food and drink policy and programming

Preparing Scotland to respond to the economic aspects of Brexit

  • leading the Scottish Government economic policy response to the impact of Brexit on goods and investment and developing Scottish policy on market access, including free trade and customs arrangements, and the implications of World Trade Organisation requirements
  • working across the Scottish Government on the wider Brexit response in relation to the economic aspects of immigration, free movement and trade in services
