Glossary

This glossary is designed to support understanding of key terms used in Scotland's education system for children and young people with additional support needs. The aim is to provide definitions that are both legally accurate and accessible for a wide audience. Terms are listed in alphabetical order, with statutory sources identified to support accuracy.

Additional Support Needs (ASN)

Legal Reference: Section 23, Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Act 2004

Child's Plan

A personalised child’s plan is a non-statutory plan which should be considered when those working with a child or young person and their family, identify that they need a range of extra support beyond universal provision to be planned, delivered or co-ordinated.
