Equality outcomes 2025-2029: summary - easy read

Provides an update on our new equality outcomes for the 2025 to 2029 reporting period, including intended actions we will take to meet these outcomes.

Our new equality outcomes

Outcome 1 – Equality Evidence

We will get better at having facts and evidence about equality. We need to use this information when making decisions and doing our work.

Why we chose this outcome

Having good information makes sure we get better at tackling inequalities. We need to get better at this by 2029. Scotland’s Equality Evidence Strategy 2023–2025 sets a plan for this.

Outcome 2 – Lived Experience & Taking Part

People with lived experience of inequality should have a bigger say in making policy and decisions. We need to get better at this by 2029.

We need better ways of getting feedback. We want people to tell us how our policies are working. We need to listen to what they tell us, so we change things for the better.

Why we chose this outcome

Involving people with lived experience of inequality is the best way to make sure we meet their needs.

Actions we need to take

The full report to sets out the actions we will take to achieve this outcome. It also sets out how we will measure how well we are doing.

Outcome 3 – Equality & Other Impact Assessments

When the Scottish Government makes changes, we look at how different groups of people will be affected. This is called an Equality impact assessment.

We need to get better at making impact assessments about equality, rights, and fairness. They should be more accessible. People should know more about the changes we make.

Why we chose this outcome

Equality impact assessments make sure that equality is an important part of all decisions. They help people to trust that we make decisions for the right reasons.
