10. Derelict and Urban Vacant Land Reclaimed or Brought Back into Use

A total of 192 hectares (158 sites) were reclaimed or brought back into use since the previous survey. A further 34 hectares (21 sites) were removed because they had become naturalised.

Chart 3 - a bar chart showing the top five new uses of derelict and urban vacant land. Residential is the top new use by far at 192 hectares, followed by manufacturing  28 hectares, green environmental 23 hectares, mineral activity has 20 hectares and Other General Industrial has 15 hectares.

Over a half (57%) of the land was brought into residential use.

Private sector funding brought back 64 hectares into use. Public sector funding accounted for 31 hectares and mixed public and private funding was used for 17 hectares.
