Scottish Islands Typology: overview 2024

This report outlines the Scottish Islands Typology (2024). It classifies Scotland’s islands into ten categories based on combinations of population, access to local amenities, and access to mainland Scotland. It offers an alternative way to compare the differences and similarities between islands.

An errata was published on 7/3/2024 as a result of changes on the PDF ”Scottish Islands Typology 2024 Overview,” page 24.

Under the section, “Islands / island groupings with mid to high population levels” the island of Bute was omitted. An additional bullet point has been added to the list which reads:

- Bute, (population 6,498)

The HTML and PDF have been updated to reflect these changes.
