Easy read summary of the Scottish Government Response to the Independent Review of Adult Disability Payment Final Report.

A People’s Service

This part has recommendations about making sure Adult Disability Payment works for people who get it.

Within 3 months:

Social Security Scotland will keep listening to disabled people and Disabled People’s Organisations.

Social Security Scotland wants to know more about how lots of different people feel about Adult Disability Payment.

Social Security Scotland especially wants to know more about how:

  • young people aged 16-24
  • people who speak English as a second language
  • people with different communication needs
  • Lesbian Gay Bisexual, Trans, Queer and Intersex people

feel about Adult Disability payment

The Scottish Government is going to do more research to see how many people who could get Adult Disability Payment actually apply for it.

Social Security Scotland is working to use a trauma informed approach. This means understanding someone has had a hard time before and making sure they feel safe and supported.

They will keep teaching their staff about different health conditions and disabilities so they can learn more about how they affect people.

Thinking more about:

Most people say they want letters that don’t have too much information in them so we will think carefully before we add anything to our letters.

Not working on:

Letting people phone Local Delivery to make an appointment. This is because we want people to call the Social Security Scotland helpline instead.
