Report on satisfaction with Local Authority cultural services in Scotland in 2024.

Satisfaction with Local Authority cultural services amongst users (2024)

In 2024, around nine out of ten users[1] were satisfied with local authority libraries (91%), museums and galleries (92%), and theatres and concert halls (90%). See Figure 1 and Table 9.14 in supporting excel workbook).

Figure 1: Satisfaction with Local Authority cultural services amongst users (2024)

Satisfaction with libraries and museums and galleries has maintained since 2023. However, satisfaction with theatres and concert halls has increased from 87% in 2023 to 90% in 2024 (Figure 2 and Table 9.14 in supporting excel workbook).

Figure 2: Satisfaction with Local Authority cultural services amongst users (2023 to 2024)

Between 2007[1] and 2024, satisfaction with theatres and concert halls, amongst users, has increased by three percentage points (from 86% to 90%)[2]; satisfaction with libraries and museums and galleries has maintained over this period. See table 9.14 in the supporting excel workbook.

Data[3] is available for satisfaction with Local Authorities cultural services by Local Authorities and for age and sex amongst users (see Tables 9.15 - 9.16 in the supporting excel workbook).  Due to small sample sizes for some Local Authorities we are unable to identify any differences (make statistical comparisons) across Local Authorities.

Tables 9.15 and 9.16 in the supporting excel workbook show that there was no difference in satisfaction amongst users for all three Local Authority cultural services between men and women or adults aged 16-24 and 75 and over.

[1] Questions relating to satisfaction with Local Authority cultural services were first asked in the SHS in 2007/08.

[2] Percentages in this report have been rounded to the nearest whole number. As a result of this calculated differences or changes may be out compared to the difference between the stated percentages.

[3] In some tables percentages may have been removed from cells and replaced with [u]. This is where the base is less than 50 and such data are judged to be insufficiently reliable for publication. Estimates with base numbers close to 50 should also be treated with caution, as even though these estimates have been published, they are subject to high levels of sampling error and have a high degree of uncertainty around them.
