Proposed Northern Shelf Cod Fisheries Management Plan

The Northern Shelf cod FMP is one of the 43 UK FMPs set out in the Joint Fisheries Statement (JFS). This FMP sets out the policies and actions to manage the fish stock at sustainable levels continuing to provide positive socio-economic benefits to the UK.


Scope

This FMP relates to Northern Shelf cod (Gadus morhua) which consists of the Northern Shelf cod fishery in UK waters of ICES Subarea 4 (North Sea) and divisions 6.a (West of Scotland) and 7.d (Eastern Channel).

The 2020 Act requires the relevant authority or authorities to prepare and publish FMPs in accordance with the list and timetable included in the JFS.[3] The relevant authorities for this FMP are the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA), the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Scottish Government.[4] The plan has been prepared and published jointly by the relevant authorities for the purposes of the 2020 Act. As the coordinating authority, the Scottish Government has coordinated the preparation and management of this plan on behalf of the other relevant authorities.[5]
