Offshore Marine Protected Areas - fisheries management measures: SG response

Our official response to the 2024 public consultation on proposed fisheries management measures in Offshore Marine Protected Areas.

9. Conclusion

The Scottish Government remains firmly committed to the sustainable management of our marine environment, ensuring that the long-term health of marine ecosystems is safeguarded while supporting the resilience of our coastal and island communities. The introduction of fisheries management measures in offshore MPAs represents an important step toward achieving our national and international commitments to marine conservation.

The Scottish Government recognises that successful marine management relies on ongoing dialogue and shared stewardship. We are committed to continuing our collaboration with the fishing industry, environmental organisations, local authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure that future decisions remain inclusive, evidence-based, and adaptive to change.

We are grateful to all individuals, communities, and organisations who took the time to engage with the public consultation. The feedback received has played a vital role in shaping the final management measures.
