The Official Controls (Location of Border Control Posts) (Scotland) Regulations 2026 - Business and Regulatory Impact Assessment

This is the final BRIA which considers the impact of the Official Controls (Location of Border Control Posts) (Scotland) Regulations 2026.

Section 5: Scottish Government Compliance with UK regulatory alignment and EU Standards

5.1 Alignment of proposals with the Internal Market Act and Intra-UK Trade

The proposed policy change is not expected to have any negative impact on current trade or export agreements, including any cross-border movements of animal products across the UK. It is similar but not identical to provisions already in place in England, due to geographic constraints across the Short Straits.

5.2 Alignment of proposals with EU on standards and access to (trading) markets

There are no known implications in this policy regarding EU alignment. The SSI will modify Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2019/1012.

The policy of EU alignment is not considered relevant to official controls on the entry of goods into Great Britain. The proposal should increase access to the EU market.
