What is this proposal for change and why will it make a difference?

The Scottish Government is now proposing to amend the definition of “daycare of children” in schedule 12 of the Public Services Reform (Scotland) Act 2010 and to create a new separate definition for “school age childcare”. This approach offers an opportunity to directly address a number of the key barriers identified by the SACC sector over a number of years by enabling different regulation for these services.

The expected benefits of this approach include: highlighting the unique role and value of school age childcare services and their wider role in supporting children and families, and enabling a review of job roles and qualification standards.
