National Transitions to Adulthood Strategy for young disabled people: child rights and wellbeing impact assessment
National Transitions to Adulthood Strategy for young disabled people: child rights and wellbeing impact assessment
5. Analysis of Evidence
The Strategy aims to have a positive effect on young disabled people, aged 14-25 in Scotland.
The Literature Review identified there was existing evidence on the experiences of transitions to adulthood for young disabled people, and used this to form a clearer picture of what successful positive transition experiences would look like. The review noted there was a lack of detail on how existing policies and laws worked in practice to support young disabled people. When implemented the Strategy aims to have a positive impact on the lives of young disabled people through its actions and by advocating for the principles of choice, clear information, and collaboration between services to demonstrate smooth and successful transitions for young disabled people.
Expertise shared through both the cross-policy working group and the external strategic working group was utilised to shape the Statement of Intent, which set out the proposed scope; vision and priorities for the Strategy. The statement of intent questionnaire and engagement feedback showed a high level of support for these, with a majority of respondents either strongly agreeing or agreeing with each statement and its intended aim to improve transitions for young disabled people.
