National Care Service: Independent advocacy co-design report - easy read

This easy read report sets out findings we have gathered through research and co-design that relate to independent advocacy.

Co-design sessions

We ran 13 co-design sessions about independent advocacy.

Co-design means:

  • you can share your ideas and experiences with us.
  • working with other people to find out how we can make things better

We ran sessions with people from different backgrounds and communities.

The people who took part had lived experience of using social care services or helping someone else who uses social care services.

At the sessions, we discussed:

  • things that make it harder to access independent advocacy support
  • ideas to make it easier to access independent advocacy support

examples of what good independent advocacy looks like

Our sessions were held across Scotland. There were sessions in:

  • Aberdeen
  • Edinburgh
  • Glasgow
  • Livingston

We held some sessions online for people who could not travel.

We ran these sessions with organisations. These organisations were:

  • Action for Children
  • Age Scotland
  • Alzheimer’s Scotland
  • Council of Ethnic Minority Voluntary Organisations (CEMVO)
  • Glasgow Disability Alliance
  • Minority Ethnic Carers of People Project (MECOPP)
  • Scottish Commission for People with Learning Disabilities
