How to apply

The application process is the same for households and businesses.

1. Check your vehicle compliance - use the vehicle checker to confirm your vehicle does not meet LEZ standards before applying.
2. Complete and submit a self-referral form to check your eligibility to apply (links below)
3. Apply online - you will receive an email inviting you to submit your application through the relevant Energy Saving Trust portal below. Applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis.
4. Await a decision - Energy Saving Trust will aim to contact you within 10 working days of receiving your application.
5. Accept your grant offer - if successful, you will receive a grant offer letter. Do not scrap your vehicle or buy anything before accepting this.
6. Scrap your vehicle - take your vehicle to an approved scrapping facility. You must ensure the facility provides a certifcate of destruction as proof of scrapping, and submit this to Energy Saving Trust to claim funding.
7. Receive payment - Energy Saving Trust will release payment direct to your bank account within 15 working days of receipt.
8. Claim your Travel Better grant - if eligible, you will be invited to apply for greener travel options for your household, or a cargo bike for your business. Travel Better applications follow the process described in steps 2 to 4. Once you have accepted your grant you are free to purchase items and submit proof of purchase as claim evidence.

Households

Check eligibility using the householder online self-referral form at the Energy Saving Trust website. You will need to register to apply.

Microbusinesses and sole traders

Check eligibility using the business online self-referral form at the Energy Saving Trust website. You will need to register to apply.
