Low Emission Zone Support Fund: how to apply

Eligibility: businesses

To be eligible, your business must:

• be a microbusiness or sole trader – this means nine or fewer employees and a turnover of £632,000 or less, or a balance sheet of up to £316,000
• operate within 40km of a Low Emission Zone (LEZ)
• own a vehicle that does not meet LEZ standards - your vehicle is likely non-compliant if it is a Euro 3 or older petrol vehicle (generally registered before 2006) or a Euro 5 or older diesel vehicle (generally registered before September 2015) - use the vehicle checker to confirm
• have a valid MOT and be taxed - the vehicle must not be declared off the road (SORN)
• have the vehicle registered to you or your business
• have owned the vehicle since before 17 September 2020 and use it for business purposes
• replace the vehicle with an LEZ-compliant model if you need a replacement - Energy Saving Trust may withhold payment until you provide evidence of this

You can apply for up to three vehicles. If your business has already received funding for three vehicles through the Low Emission Zone Retrofit Fund, you cannot apply again.

Travel Better Fund: businesses

If your scrapping application is successful, your business may also be able to claim up to £1,000 towards a cargo or electric cargo bike.

Do not buy anything until you have received and accepted a grant offer letter from Energy Saving Trust. Purchases made before receiving your offer letter will not be funded.

What you can claim for:

• a new or second-hand cargo bike, including electric versions - must be bought from a bike shop; no private sales

What you cannot claim for:

• standard bikes, ebikes or utility bikes
• cargo trailers or attachment units
• electric cargo bikes that do not meet UK legal requirements
• cycling accessories such as helmets and lights
• bike repairs, servicing or maintenance
• cycle storage, insurance or training
• cars, mopeds, motorbikes or any other motorised vehicle
• electric scooters, scooters, skateboards or hoverboards
• anything bought through a private sale, online marketplace or auction
