3. Summary of draft priorities for potential inclusion in the refreshed Delivery Plan
At the last Leadership Board meeting in December, members were asked to provide insights into their strategic priorities for the forthcoming refresh. The feedback received to date, including from our Equalities and Human Rights Forum and Diverse Experiences Advisory Panel, has been summarised below.
Accessibility of mental health services
- Ongoing work to support access to CAMHS and Psychological Therapies.
- Increased capacity in primary care and community based mental health services is essential.
- Particularly address physical, sensory, and psychological barriers to accessing services and improve culturally sensitive and inclusive provision.
- Improve technology use and patient choice in accessing services.
- Embed lived experience and peer support across mental health service delivery.
Stigma reduction
- Tackle mental health stigma, particularly in underrepresented groups, and through structural, cultural, and institutional approaches.
- Improve service accessibility, addressing physical, sensory, and cultural barriers.
Tackling root causes and a stronger preventative approach
- Tackling poverty, housing and social determinants in mental health.
- Ensure a whole-system, whole-person approach and prioritising preventative mental health care.
- Promote less medicalised responses, focusing on community and psychological support.
Strengthening support pathways
- Improve neurodevelopmental and crisis care pathways.
- Expand “Time, Space and Compassion” principles in service delivery and support unpaid carers with clearer mental health support pathways.
Legislation, Governance & Policy Development
- Establish a preferred forensic governance solution.
- Expand Female Forensic Services at The State Hospital.
- Implement and mainstream Mental Health Nursing Review and Psychiatry Short Life Working Group recommendations.
