Independent Review of Medicines Homecare in Scotland: review report and recommendations
An independent review of Medicines Homecare in Scotland covering the supply of secondary care-initiated medicines and associated care to patients in the community, with recommendations on improvements to these services.
Appendix 3 Call for Evidence Method
An electronic survey was developed using Microsoft forms (Appendix 4). This was developed based on the literature [17] and the aims of the Review and outlined in the NHS Medicines Homecare Review Terms of Reference (Appendix 1). The survey comprised filter questions relating to demographics of the participants, which ensured they only answered relevant questions within the survey. Subsequent open questions sought to identify perceived benefits and challenges, perceptions of the information available about medicines homecare and the quality of the current homecare services, any geographical disparities in service provision and any recommendations for alternative models and or improvements that could be made. There were additional questions for organisations and key stakeholders about the sustainability and scalability of the service, with reference to potential VAT changes and contractual arrangements and the impact these may have. Finally, the survey explored the perceptions of stakeholders regarding quality standards for medicines homecare services, how and by whom these are monitored, and knowledge of any enforcement mechanisms used if standards are not met. The survey was circulated at the beginning of September 2023 with a closing date of October 31 2023.
Data analysis
There were 75 responses to the call for evidence. The breakdown of responders by category can be seen in Figure 6. Responses were coded using the coding framework in (Appendix 6) and assimilated into broader themes which informed subsequent recommendations.
Other includes healthcare company/homecare provider, individuals, NHS governance group.
