Highly Protected Marine Areas - policy framework and site selection guidelines: partial BRIA

The partial business and regulatory impact assessment (BRIA) presents an initial assessment of the potential costs, benefits and risks of introducing HPMAs and their potential impacts on public, private or third sectors.

6. Competition Assessment

The introduction of HPMAs it is not foreseen to have a direct impact on competition since all businesses will be excluded from the area. There could be some indirect impacts on competition if displacement within the fishing sector was to take place. The information gathered during the consultation period will allow us to assess any indirect impacts on competition more thoroughly.
