Supporting the Edinburgh Declaration

Supporting the Edinburgh Declaration

Local and city authorities, regional and subnational governments are invited to support the aims, commitments and calls to action of the Edinburgh Process by taking action to:

Signatories to the Edinburgh Declaration

Become signatory to the Edinburgh Declaration to cement the call upon parties to the Convention to adopt a new dedicated decision by indicating commitment of subnational authorities in helping implement the framework and deliver upon the new targets in partnership with their national counterparts. It is intended to present the Declaration to the 7th Global Biodiversity Summit of Local and Subnational Governments held in Kunming China in 2021 and in parallel to COP15, as well as to COP15, to demonstrate the global subnational aspiration and readiness for the post-2020 global biodiversity framework. More detail on how to sign can be found on the Edinburgh Declaration webpages.

Contact their National Focal Point

Contact their National Focal Point to ask that National governments support the dedicated decision and renewed Plan of Action for greater inclusion of subnational authorities within the post-2020 global biodiversity framework. We have attached a letter template which can be adjusted to local needs to the supporting files section of this page.

State authorities who support the principles, aims and outputs of the Edinburgh Process are invited to endorse the Edinburgh Declaration

For any further information regarding the Edinburgh Declaration or the dedicated decision for subnational governments, city and local authorities please contact the Edinburgh Process secretariat - enquiries-subnationalworkshop@gov.scot.
