Jordanhill School Budget Review 2025/26: equality impact assessment

Equality impact assessment impact (EQIA) for the Jordanhill School Budget Review. The Scottish Government policy is to seek to treat Jordanhill School equally to a local authority school, with no advantage or detriment.

Stage 2: Data and evidence gathering, involvement and consultation

The information gathering exercises returned the following data and evidence. Please note that these exercises did not raise any specific evidence in relation to Marriage and Civil Partnership as these characteristics are not relevant to the budget review process for Jordanhill School.

Characteristic[1] - Age

Evidence gathered and Strength/quality of evidence

Funding for the School has a positive impact on children and young people of school age. The primary school has 66 pupils per year P1 – P7; and secondary has 99 pupils per year from S1 – S4. There are 195 pupils in S5/6.

The School consistently fills all available places in each year group. As a consequence, the School’s Pupil Teacher Ratio (PTR) is currently over the national average for Primary school.

For primary, in 2023 this was 21.7 for Jordanhill School, compared to the national average for primary of 15.3. However the PTR is in line with the national average for secondary school. Maintaining or improving funding will therefore contribute to supporting a positive educational experience for pupils at the School.

As part of a focus group held at the School to collect pupil’s thoughts on the budget review, senior pupils were concerned that a decrease in funding could result in them being unable to study subjects in S5 and S6 if reductions to staffing affected the school’s ability to offer the current courses. They mentioned the Highers and Advanced Highers that they currently access and how this has helped them decide on the courses and occupations they would like to pursue post school. As at 2023, 89% of pupils left Jordanhill School with at least 5 Highers, giving the School the highest attainment rate in Scotland. Hearing these viewpoints allowed us to see first-hand the range of courses available to older pupils when selecting course options, and the benefits they reap from having access to these. This was important in highlighting priority areas for consideration when conducting the budget review.

The grants to the School also encompass funding towards pension expenses, to enable the school to cover costs for staff to ensure they have financial security in retirement.
