Overview of key facts and trends relating to energy in Scotland for Q2 2025


Renewable Electricity Capacity

Scotland’s capacity for electricity generation from renewable sources has continued to increase and currently stands at 17.7 GW – a 4.3% increase compared to 17.0 GW at the end of the second quarter of 2024 (Figure 3).

The technologies with the largest capacity growth between the second quarter of 2024 and the second quarter of 2025 were fixed offshore wind (0.4 GW increase) and onshore wind (0.2 GW increase).

Note - ‘Other’ includes the following technologies: shoreline wave/tidal; landfill gas; sewage sludge digestion; energy from waste; animal biomass; and anaerobic digestion.
