Energy Statistics for Scotland - Q2 2025
Overview of key facts and trends relating to energy in Scotland for Q2 2025
Final Energy Consumption
Total final energy consumption in Scotland in 2023 was 135.6 TWh. This is down 3.0% from 139.7 TWh in 2022 and down 21.5% from the baseline figure of 172.7 TWh (Figure 1).
In 2023, 55.8 TWh of energy was consumed in the non-domestic sector. This is down 28.1% compared to the baseline (the baseline is the average consumption from 2005-2007) when 77.6 TWh was consumed and down 6.9% from 2022 when 59.9 TWh of energy was consumed. The total final energy consumption in the domestic sector in Scotland in 2023 has increased slightly compared to 2022 - up 1.3% from 38.2 TWh in 2022 to 38.7 TWh in 2023. However, compared to the baseline, energy consumption in 2023 in the domestic sector has decreased 27.3%.
Revisions to bioenergy modelling and updates to sub-national distribution of fuel use mean that the entire total final energy consumption timeseries has been revised. These changes are described in the UK greenhouse gas emissions statistical release and the UK residual fuel methodology. The latest figures supersede previously published figures.
