Energy Performance Certificates: guide
Energy performance certificates (EPCs) explain how energy efficient a building is and how it could be improved.
How to get an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)
EPCs can only be produced by accredited EPC assessors. Assessors must be accredited by an Approved Organisation.
There is no standard cost for obtaining an EPC. You may want to ask for quotes from different assessors in your area to get an EPC at a reasonable cost.
You can find a list of EPC assessors using the Scottish EPC Register assessor search.
Check an EPC on the Scottish Register.
You can check whether your building already has an EPC on the Scottish EPC Register by searching using your postcode.
You can also check that an EPC is valid by searching using its Report Reference Number (RRN).
If a building has an active Green Deal plan, its EPC can only be found by searching using the RRN. The Green Deal was a UK Government scheme to improve home energy efficiency. It's now closed to new entrants, but some homes still have an active plan.
