Easy read version of the Interim National Care Service Advisory Board's priority advice prepared for Scottish Ministers and Council Leaders to help drive improvement and make sure services are consistent, fair and high-quality across Scotland.

Coming Home

Coming Home is for people in Scotland who have a learning disability and complex support needs.

It is about making sure people can live safely in their own local community and not in hospital or far away from home.

The Interim NCS Advisory Board has given advice to the Scottish Government, local authorities and health boards to support Coming Home.

The advice covered different areas, including:

  • money to help people live independently
  • improving access to independent advocacy

Independent advocacy is when someone helps another person to share their personal needs and understand their rights.

  • keeping track of how many people are in hospital or living far away from home
  • making sure people have the help and support they need to live at home
