What we may do next

To make these changes happen we need to make a new Bill.

A Bill is a plan for new laws.

Members of the Scottish Parliament discuss them to decide if they should become law.

The Bill will set out the changes we want to happen in law.

The Bill also needs to give plans for what happens for people who have already separated.

These plans are called transitional arrangements.

We think that the new law should only happen for people who separate after the date the new law starts.

This means that any people whose relationship had ended before the new law started could still apply to the court for money.

But their process would follow the old laws.
