Part of
A good cereal harvest predicted for 2025
Total cereal production is expected to increase to more than 3.2 million tonnes, above the previous five-year average (2020 to 2024).
The total area of cereals in 2025 is predicted to increase by 2% compared to 2024. The average yield for cereals is predicted to increase by 7%. Combined, the result may be an 8% increase in total production.
Favourable weather conditions in autumn 2024 supported winter crops, which are predicted to perform well. Scotland saw the sunniest spring and hottest summer on record in 2025 and impacts of drought during these seasons are expected to more strongly impact spring crops.
