Just Transition: draft plan for transport in Scotland: easy read

This easy read version of the draft plan identifies the key challenges and opportunities that the transport sector faces in making a just transition to net zero. We are seeking views as part of a public consultation, which will run until 19 May 2025.

Introduction

The climate is the weather we expect to have. A climate emergency is when the climate is changing too fast. It is damaging the environment.

This is happening now because humans are burning fossil fuels like oil and gas. Governments around the world are taking steps to stop this.

We need everyone to get involved in climate change. We need to get ready for the effects. We need new ideas about how to change the way we live for the better.

This plan is about helping us cope with changes we need to make to the transport system. We are making changes to how we live so we can be environmentally friendly.

A Just Transition Plan is about making things better for the environment and people. It says how we make things fairer as we cut the causes of climate change.

Transport is an important part of the economy. It has different types of travel and jobs that support them. It helps the economy by moving goods and services to homes and businesses.

We need to make less of the gasses that cause climate change. We need to use cars less. We need to use more public transport. Walking and riding bikes are also important.

We need to make sure people are travelling in cleaner vehicles like electric cars.

The way people travel depends on where we live. It is easier to use public transport or bikes in cities. It is harder in rural villages and on islands.

This plan understands differences and explains what the Scottish Government is doing to help different groups. These groups are people and communities, workers, and businesses.

This plan is helping the Scottish Government understand how climate change affects people in different ways. We will then use this information to make sure we are doing the right things

We would like to hear your views on this plan.
