Public Health Scotland (PHS) compile a Rapid Action Drug Alerts and Response (RADAR) Quarterly report of drug-related indicators to inform action to prevent drug harms and deaths. This includes weekly data on suspected drug deaths from Police Scotland. Police Scotland and PHS are currently collaborating to implement a new IT system designed to automate the process of identifying and sharing information about suspected drug deaths. The next RADAR publication, due for release in January 2026, is expected to include new analysis using data from the new IT system. In light of this, Scottish Government, together with partners, will consider the future of the ‘Suspected drug deaths in Scotland’ report.

The next annual drug misuse deaths accredited official statistics publication from NRS is due to be released in Summer 2026.
