About the study

This study will provide information on the financial experiences of students aged 16 and over studying for further and higher education courses in Scotland. This is in response to the Scottish Government’s Programme for Government (PfG) 2020/21 commitment to deliver an up-to-date picture of students’ finances and the effect these have on their experiences whilst studying. The last student income and expenditure survey in Scotland was in 2007/08.

The Scottish Centre for Social Research (ScotCen) has been commissioned and funded by the Scottish Government to undertake this Study.
