Stakeholder engagement report: An assessment of potential options for improved management of end-of-life fishing and aquaculture gear

A report on the feasibility of potential options for improved collection and management of end-of-life gear, based on information gathered from an industry engagement project.

Conclusions

This engagement exercise provided the sectors with an opportunity to have their say on the issue of waste management. Their responses at events reaffirmed research conclusions regarding the barriers to current waste management, and their interest in improvement.

One option clearly had the most support. A regional hub for the collection and processing of end-of-life gear, to enable further processing and recycling of materials, would be a beneficial addition to the work that some recycling companies are already conducting in this field, making a greater volume of materials available and potentially enabling new opportunities in recycling.
