Stakeholder engagement report: An assessment of potential options for improved management of end-of-life fishing and aquaculture gear
A report on the feasibility of potential options for improved collection and management of end-of-life gear, based on information gathered from an industry engagement project.
Objective
Through the British-Irish Council we committed to working together across the four nations and with industry, to work toward improving the collection and recycling of end-of-life gear.
We used the aforementioned research as a basis, which was conducted with industry, to develop a long-list of potential options that could work toward addressing the volumes of end-of-life gear that have been outlined above, and identified scenarios where two or more options could operate in conjunction. From this, we decided on a short list of the most feasible options. Working at a Scottish level, we reduced this down to the most relevant and potentially most feasible suggestions to discuss with the fishing and aquaculture industries. The objective of this stakeholder engagement exercise was to measure the level of support from industry for the presented policy options.
