Decarbonisation of residual waste infrastructure: Scottish Government response

Our initial response to the second report on the decarbonisation of residual waste infrastructure in Scotland. The second report followed on from Stop, Sort, Burn, Bury? - the recommendations of the independent review of the role of incineration in the waste hierarchy.

Footnotes

1. In the Scottish Greenhouse Gas Statistics, emissions from Energy from Waste cannot be separately identified and are reported under Power Stations in the Energy Supply sector, not the Waste Management sector. This is in line with the definitions set out by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Our response to the first report committed to working with BEIS to enable Energy from Waste emissions to be separately identified in future reporting.

2. Scotland currently produces around 4.4 million tonnes of residual waste each year, see Summary Table in SEPA (2021) Waste from All Sources: Data Tables
