What do these statistics cover?

Scottish Annual Business Statistics (SABS) provides data mainly on the Production (including Manufacturing), Construction and Service Sectors in Scotland. The Annual Business Survey, from which the statistics are largely derived, covers approximately two thirds of the economy. The main sectors not covered are the financial sector & parts of agriculture and the public sector. These statistics are therefore best suited to the analysis of individual industries rather than the economy as a whole.

The Tables include information on businesses' employment, turnover, purchases, approximate gross value added and labour costs. Data are classified according to industry group, geographical area and ownership. All figures are at current prices unless otherwise stated.

The tabs to the left contain useful high-level information about this publication. Downloads are available from the 'Supporting Files' button.

What year do tables relate to?

Please note that Tables mainly contain 2008-2017 data published on a SIC 2007 basis only and were released on 12th June 2019.

When will the figures be updated?

New 2018 and revised 2017 figures are scheduled for release in June 2020.
