Scotland’s Cladding Remediation Programme update: Q3 2025

A quarterly release providing data and information on the progress of the Cladding Remediation Programme in Scotland

Remediation and mitigation

Urgent interim measures are defined here as mitigation measures that are put in place to reduce the life-safety fire risk of buildings and may be of a temporary nature. These may include waking watches and the installation of fire alarms. A waking watch is a system whereby suitably trained persons continually patrol all floors and the exterior perimeter of the building in order to detect a fire, raise the alarm, and carry out the role of evacuation management.

Remediation work is defined here as more permanent work, beyond urgent interim measures, that has been identified as being needed to eliminate or mitigate risks to human life that are (directly or indirectly) created or exacerbated by a building’s external wall cladding system in a Single Building Assessment (SBA) or Additional Work Assessment (AWA).

All 16 completed SBAs identified that remediation work was required.

As at 30 September 2025, urgent interim measures were in place in buildings relating to six of the completed SBAs. Remediation work had started in buildings relating to two of the completed SBAs, including one where urgent interim measures were also in place.
