School Healthy Living Survey statistics: 2020

Introduction

This annual statistical publication provides information from a survey carried out in February each year of all publicly funded schools in Scotland on registration for free school meals (FSM), uptake of school meals (both free and paid for) and Physical Education (PE) provision.

Headline results

38.1 per cent of pupils were registered for free school meals (38.0 per cent in 2019).

Of those registered for free school meals and present on the survey day 76.2 per cent took a free meal (78.1 per cent in 2019).

Of all pupils present on the survey day 53.3 per cent took a meal (free or paid for) supplied by the school (54.5 per cent in 2019).

99 per cent of schools (almost 100 per cent of primary and 94 per cent of secondary schools) met the target level of PE provision (99 per cent in 2019).
