Residential rehabilitation bed capacity in Scotland, October 2025
This publication presents the findings from a survey of drug and alcohol residential rehabilitation facilities in Scotland to provide updated data on bed capacity.
Data and Methodology
A survey aimed at obtaining information on residential rehabilitation bed capacity was hosted on the online survey platform Questback and a link distributed by email to all known residential rehabilitation facilities in Scotland.
The survey was developed in consultation with the Residential Rehabilitation Futures Working Group and Public Health Scotland, and included questions on referrals, including statutory funding and geographic distribution, and how the service model aligned with the definition of rehabilitation. The questions relating to the data in this report are provided in Appendix A.
Residential rehabilitation facilities were identified through a scoping exercise informed by previous research and more recent development activity in this field. Recipients were asked to forward the survey to any other residential rehabilitation facilities they were aware of. Follow-up conversations were held with individual facilities to seek clarification of the information provided as part of the data validation and quality assurance processes.
Data collection took place between 5 September and 14 October 2025. Validation and quality assurance concluded end November 2025.
