Conclusion and Next Steps

Scottish Government welcomes the engagement in this process to better understand remote learning readiness and will continue to work closely with local authorities on quality and improvements. This also supports wider efforts across Government in relation to crisis preparation to help ensure robust contingency plans are in place as and when needed.

Scottish Government officials undertook a high level rapid online learning review earlier this year, to provide stronger strategic direction for the online learning landscape in Scotland, recognising the range of existing offerings, considering the funding landscape and the opportunities that online delivery presents to teachers and learners. This identified that further work is needed to explore future priorities for funding and delivery to ensure that appropriate online learning resources are available to support and complement any local authority offers across Scotland’s schools, taking into account work on curriculum improvement and qualifications reform.

There will be further ongoing dialogue between Scottish Government, Education Scotland and local authorities on remote learning to improve overall readiness based on the responses in this report.

In line with Section 17 of the Coronavirus (Recovery and Reform) (Scotland) Act 2022 this report will be published online and the exercise will be repeated in future years to meet the requirements in relation to remote readiness.
