Readiness for Remote Learning Report 25/26
The report on public schools’ readiness for remote learning summarises findings from Education Scotland’s survey which ran in 2025. This meets Section 17 of The Coronavirus (Recovery and Reform) (Scotland) 2022 Recovery Act.
Method
From May 2025, Education Scotland invited all 32 local authorities to complete an online survey questionnaire (Annex B) by the closing date of 31 July 2025. There was a 100% completion rate with all 32 local authorities engaged in the process by providing their assessment of readiness which is a 25% increase on the last survey. However, only 31 responses have been included in this analysis and publication due to one local authority declining permission to include their responses in published form.
This report provides summarised findings, based on the responses of the local authority officers who completed the survey and aligned to the main survey questions, which are:
- How ready is your Local Authority to provide remote learning?
- What specific steps has the Local Authority taken to ensure readiness for remote learning?
The following standard Education Scotland terms of quantity are used in the analysis of the survey findings and are set out in Table 1 below:
