Proposed North Sea and West of Scotland for Monk/Anglerfish Fisheries Management Plans

The North Sea and West Coast of Scotland monk/anglerfish FMP is one of 43 UK FMPs set out in the Joint Fisheries Statement (JFS). It sets out the policies and actions to continue to maintain the relevant stock at sustainable levels providing positive socio-economic benefits to the UK.

Why an FMP for Northern Shelf anglerfish?

Northern Shelf anglerfish are a whitefish species caught as part of a mixed whitefish fishery within UK waters and also outwith UK waters. Anglerfish is a commercial species of key importance within UK waters that is caught primarily by the UK fleet. Anglerfish is one of the most valuable demersal species. In 2022, ~10,500 tonnes was landed into the UK, amounting to just over £34 million in landed value. Anglerfish was the species with the second largest landed value for 2022, and it is routinely one of the UK fleets’ top earners year on year.
