Work is underway with the Office for National Statistics towards providing a comparable time series for BERD spend in Scotland.
14 UK innovation survey 2023: report (2024) Gov.uk. Data for Proportion of businesses innovation active is part of the UK Innovation Survey which is carried out every two years. The 2025 UK Innovation Survey is ongoing but not yet reported.
15 Digital Economy Business Survey 2021 findings (2021) Scottish Government. The original source for this data (DEBS) has been paused. We are exploring alternate measures including from the UK Digital Economy Survey when it publishes results for 2024, and the Employers Skills Survey.

23 Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings 2024. The estimate for 2024 is provisional and estimates are subject to sampling variability. The data is employees on adult rates whose pay was not affected by absence unless furloughed. Due to methodological changes, estimates for 2023 and 2024 may not be directly comparable to estimates for 2022 and earlier years.
