GDP Monthly Estimate: June 2025
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) statistics measure changes in the output of the economy. This is an Official Statistics in Development publication for Scotland.
In June the sectors with the largest positive contribution to overall GDP were Professional, Scientific and Technical Services and Manufacturing, which each contributed around 0.2 percentage points of growth towards headline GDP. The largest negative contributor was Information & Communications, which contributed around -0.1 percentage points towards headline GDP.
In June output in the Production sector is estimated to have grown by 2.2%, while the services sector is estimated to have grown by 0.3%. Construction sector output grew by 0.5% in June.
As reported by the Office for National Statistics there were some common themes that were anecdotally reported (as part of the Monthly Business Survey (MBS) for production and services) to have played a part in performance across different industries across the UK in June 2025. However it is difficult to quantify the exact impact.
Increased demand for military-related products was evident in some parts of manufacturing, across the UK, in June 2025. Businesses that manufacture “computer and electronic products”, “weapons and ammunitions”, “boats and ships”, and “aircraft” all provided comments related to this. Other factors will have also contributed to the performance of these industries in this period.
Electric vehicles were also cited as a reason for increased activity in June 2025 for parts of the UK economy. Car sales saw monthly growth in June 2025 with evidence from a range of businesses that there was an increase in electric vehicles sales. This is further supported by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Trades who reported one in four sales in June 2025 were for electric vehicles. Increased demand for electric vehicles was also reported in the rental and leasing activities industry and, despite falling on the month, some parts of motor vehicle manufacturing also cited electric vehicles as seeing an increase in activity.
